What is Local Search and How can you use it?

Filed under: Internet Marketing, SEO, Web Traffic — Admin @ 5:05 am

By Mercedes Aspland

More and more people are using the search engines to find what they are looking for, even their local services. For that reason local search is becoming more and more important to your advertising campaign. The aim of this article is to explain what local search is and how you can use it to your benefit.

What is Local Search?

For the purposes of this article we will consider Google but most of the search engines have a similar system to Google. When you search for anything using a location in your keywords you will find Google will display a map at the top with links to 10 local results, then the usual organic results will be displayed. In fact Google has made some changes to its algorithm recently so that when you search for anything Google will display local results fourth in the list. It does this by reading your IP address and detecting where you are based. The aim of this is to give people the most relevant results and helping them to find a local business.

How can Local Search Help your Business?

Well as you will already know it is really important to appear as high up in the search engine results as possible. As the local results are now appearing high up for the majority of searches you can get added benefits by submitting your site to the local results.

You also need to think about the fact that many people will want to deal with a local company. If you are nowhere for local results then you could miss out on valuable customers. At this stage I do not think local search has the same power as the standard organic results. However as Google puts more importance on it so will searchers which will make it more and more important to be featured in the local results for your area.

How to Get Listed in Local Search?

In order to appear in the local search you will need to have an account set up with Google. You will need to give them your postal address, telephone number, URL and a brief description. Once these details are verified it will probably take 24-38 hours for your site to be listed for your selected areas. It should only take a few minutes to get everything set up once you have an account. When it is this easy it is absolutely vital that you use this service if you work locally and will be looking to get local businesses.

Other tips for local businesses

If you are looking for customers that are based locally you should also consider placing your business in local directories. Probably the most important one is Yell. The reason for this is that most people know and are aware of the Yellow Pages and so are happy to use it online. As everyone uses the internet more and more your will find that more people will use the internet to find the service they need rather than any other type of medium.

Considering the reasons above it is absolutely vital that you consider local search. Many of our clients come through local search and without we would be missing out on many opportunities. Can you afford to miss out on a host of potential customers?

Why Ebooks Should Be Part Of Your Internet Marketing Strategy

Filed under: Internet Marketing, SEO, Web Traffic — Admin @ 6:40 am

Ebooks have become and inseparable part of the new frontier of cyberspace. They are a great medium for sharing marketing information, ideas, techniques, and expert knowledge. Each day the number of people accessing the Internet grows, causing the exposure of your ebooks to increase incrementally. It’s obvious why electronic self-publishing has become so popular so quickly.

Ebooks can assist small business website owners market their sites and in some cases even become a source of revenue. Having said that, let’s look at what makes ebooks so important and so unique.

“Ebooks have unique characteristics that printed books can’t match. For example, ebooks are relatively easy to produce and they can be inexpensive to produce. Just think about it: you don’t need a publisher, an agent, a printing press, offset film, ink, paper, or even a distributor. You just need a great concept, the ability to write it or to hire a writer, and the right software.

“Ebooks can be easily updated. As information changes, ebooks can be updated without a second print run. All you need is to go into your original creation and modify the text or graphics. Because of this flexibility, ebooks can change and grow as fast as you can type.

“Ebooks are convenient. You don’t have to go to a bookstore or search through endless titles at an online bookstore. All you have to do is download it from a website, and presto! It’s on your computer, ready to be read.

“Ebooks are interactive. This is one of the most unique and specific qualities that ebooks offer. You can add surveys that need to be filled out, order forms for customers to purchase your products or goods, sound and video that draw your reader into the virtual world of your ebook, even direct links to relevant sites that will expand your ebook outward. The potential is virtually limitless.

“Ebooks have a particular kind of permanence that other mediums do not possess. Television shows and radio shows air once, and then may rerun a few times. Ebooks remain on your computer for as long as your choose, and they can be read and reread whenever you choose to. They can even be printed out and stored on the shelves of your traditional home library.

“Ebooks have very low entrance barriers. You don’t need to go through the endless process of submitting your manuscript over and over again, and then once you land an agent, having the agent submit your manuscript over and over again. Nor do you have to shell out thousands of dollars for printing a self-published book. All ebooks require is a writer and appropriate software.

“Ebooks are great for Niche content. Ever wanted to find a book on a highly specific or niche product? Looking for tips on mouse killing? Good luck finding that in print. The costs are prohibitive and bookstores can’t afford the shelf space. But with an ebook, no shelf space is needed so even the most niche content can find a place on the Internet.

“You have creative control over your ebook. You don’t have to compromise with an editor or the publishing trends of the time. You don’t have to haggle with a designer or wait for copyedited galleys to arrive by snail mail. You are in complete control of the design and the text.

If you’re not convinced that ebooks are something you should consider click over to Google and search for ebooks. At last count there were over 70 million search results. Something with that kind of Internet presence is not something you want to miss.

Why Your Website Will Fail Without Keyword Research

Filed under: Internet Marketing, SEO, Web Traffic — Admin @ 12:20 am

By Jeremy Biberdorf

One of the biggest mistakes a website can make is to ignore keyword research. It is doesn’t matter how great your website is or how low your prices are, if nobody can find it. For people to be able to find your website, you need to get your website to show up in search engine queries related to your niche. If you don’t take the time to figure out what keywords people are using to find your products or services, all you can do is blindly guess which keywords to use. You’ll probably be able to guess some good keywords, but there are likely hundreds of other keywords that you haven’t even considered. Some of your choices may not even be worth targeting.

Not Everyone Searches Like You

Too many people assume that they know exactly which phrases people will use when searching for their products or services. To you it may make sense for most people to just type in your exact product name. Not everyone thinks and behaves the same way as you do though. Here are some ways that their searches could vary:

-They may throw in an extra descriptive word.

-They may use a synonym for your product

-They might type a whole sentence or just a 2 word phrase.

-They might use regional spelling or terminology.

These are just some examples or search variations. Some other people might not even know what your product is called. Some people may search for a very broad phrase, while others search for something very precise. You just don’t know really know what people are searching for unless you do some research.

How Good Keywords Will Help Your Website

Choosing the best keywords can have a substantial impact on your bottom line. Good keywords can improve your traffic volume, total sales and conversion rates.

By doing keyword research you can get a good idea of which keywords get the most search volume. This ensures that you are targeting keywords that enough people are searching for, instead of wasting resources on keywords that don’t get enough searches. Advanced keyword research will also help identify which keywords have less competition. These keywords would be easier to get rankings and traffic from.

If you increase your traffic volume, your overall sales are bound to improve, especially if you are targeting quality, relevant keywords.

When you do keyword research you will be able to identify which keywords are most relevant to your niche. Targeting highly relevant keywords improves the quality of traffic on your website. These people are much more likely to buy your products or services.

What If You Ignore Keyword Research

Ignoring keyword research is a little like opening up a store but not bothering to put a sign out front. That sign tells your potential customers what your store offers. If those people don’t know what your store specializes in, they may very well walk right by your store without going in. Not putting a ’sign’ on your website is even worse. Instead of getting a lot of street traffic that might walk into your store, your store is now in a back alley with a sign written in Swahili.

If you don’t do proper keyword research, you either won’t get much traffic or that traffic will be low quality. Usually it will be a combination of both. As a result your sales and profits will suffer. The people looking for your products may never find your website. Essentially you would be wasting the potential of your website. If you want your website to succeed, keyword research is a must!
